"Women's Studies Center holds the first international scientific lecture entitled "Gender, Conflict and Peacebuilding

Women's Studies Center (WSC) at IUG organized the first international scientific lecture entitled "Gender, Conflict and Peacebuilding" in cooperation with University of Graz (UniGraz) in Austria via Skype within the framework of the APPEAR funded project titled: Strengthening Higher Education Capacities in Palestine for Gender Equality – (SHE_GE). The lecture was presented by Dr. Brigitte Holzner from UniGraz - Austria.4


The lecture was attended by the SHE-GE team, WSC team and academics from IUG, a delegation from the Ministry of Women's Affairs, staff members of Palestinian universities, Ministry of Interior and local community who are interested in the field of gender.


The lecture included the study of the relationship between gender and peacebuilding, in addition to highlighting some examples from international areas of armed conflict and experiences for ending violence and reaching peace. Also, the meeting touched upon some important terms in the field of women and gender and the problems we face when introducing some terms. The meeting also comprised a presentation of the analysis of violence on the feminist side, which addresses topics such as citizenship and women as victims of war at various levels.

It’s worth mentioning that this lecture is one of the lectures series that will be organized in cooperation between IUG and UniGraz in the period from October 2018 till January 2019 in the field of gender and women issues.
