Introduction

Higher education in Palestine has witnessed a remarkable development in recent years on both the quantitative and qualitative levels, in which women have attained extraordinary educational and scientific achievements. However, these achievements have not been reflected on the societal gender stereotypes. In more details, there is a huge gap in women representation on the labor market as well as decision making at the institutional and national levels. Moreover, women still facing several types of social and inherited culture practices that prevent them from performing their family, community and human roles effectively.

As higher education is considered as one of the most important sectors that affects the society and enrich scientific knowledge through exchanging and generating knowledge, values ​​and trends; this conference seeks to shed light on the role of this sector within its various institutions in building woman capacity and empowering her in addition to supporting her various issues.  This aim will be achieved through the following objectives:

  • Promote higher education institutions outcomes (academic, research and community service) to empower woman and support her issues.
  • Identify the main challenges facing woman in higher education institutions and how to overcome them.
  • Evaluate policies, regulations and laws of Palestinian higher education institutions and the extent of which they support the social developmental role of women.
  • Strengthening the role of networking between higher education institutions, governmental, non-governmental institutions and international academic cooperation in supporting and empowering woman.

  1. The role of higher education institutions in clarifying the term “empowering women” according to the Islamic culture.
  2. Curricula, educational programs, extracurricular activities and university environment and their role in promoting concepts of women's rights and developing relevant skills.
  3. Higher education research outputs and their contribution in addressing women's issues and enriching specialized knowledge in the field.
  4. Community service activities offered by universities and their role in developing societal attitudes and values ​​that support women.
  5. Challenges facing women (academic, administrative and student) in higher education institutions and how to deal with them.
  6. Legislation, laws, policies and institutional systems and their role in empowering woman working in higher education institutions.
  7. Successful local and international experiences of higher education institutions in providing special programs to support woman as academic, administrative and student.
  8. Local and international partnerships and their role in supporting and empowering women.
